OK we heard you, you want to be able to specify Virtuoso ADE Explorer history names before simulation and you want these histories to increment just like they do in Virtuoso ADE Assembler, right? Let's look at how to do this.(read more)

Virtuosity: Signal Browsing Gets Easier with Advanced Search Options

Imagine what would happen if we were living in the world with no search engines. Wouldn’t we find ourselves lost in the deep information ocean, struggling to find the relevant stuff? The situation would be chaotic and nothing short of a nightmare. Cutting-edge search technology has given us unprecedented access to information at the click of a button—something that our previous generations could only dream of. Web search utilities have become so seamless that we don’t realize how deeply they’re embedded in our daily life. Being an information engineer, I could go on for hours discussing this topic in depth. But that is not the agenda of this post. So let’s shift our focus back to the EDA world and see how search utilities are implemented in Cadence products and how they help make your work easy.(read more)

You'll now be an expert at using the Corner Filters in Virtuoso ADE Assembler and Virtuoso ADE Explorer, I'm sure. But so far, you could only enable the corners you found during filtering. Now, we can offer even more flexibility. You can now disable the corners you find using the filters, and also incrementally enable or disable the filtered corners.(read more)

Virtuoso Video Diary: Reusing Variables through CSV Export and Import

Do you have some specific variables in a test and wonder if you could have a way to reuse them globally for all tests or locally in a particular test? You will be glad to know that Virtuoso ADE Assembler and Virtuoso ADE Explorer offer you a simple and time-saving solution to perform this task. You can now export variables in a CSV file and then use the same file to import them as global or local variables in any session.(read more)

Virtuosity: Preventing Redundant Simulations

$

I'm sure we all might have come across this situation - Not being sure if something has changed in the simulation setup or design so you need to run a new simulation in Virtuoso ADE Assembler to check the results. This simulation run may take hours or even days to complete and it's a sheer waste of time when you realize the results are identical to the previous simulation. It gets even worse when you have a regression setup where simulations run to ensure all results are up-to-date. You certainly would not want to spend compute resources and licenses if things are identical. The tricky question is how to find out that a simulation run is redundant. It is not a trivial task to check all dependencies for a simulation. To address this issue, starting from IC6.1.7 ISR19 and ICADV12.3 ISR19, a new cdsenv has been provided that allows you to run simulation only if the design, simulation setup or simulation files have changed. While working with Virtuoso Visualization and Analysis, you'll come across many abbreviated terms and you may not be knowing all of them. In this blog, I'll talk about some common yet important terms — PSF and PSF XL — which are nothing but the waveform file formats. If you frequently use ViVA to analyze your simulation results, PSF files are something that wouldn't go amiss! You will have to deal with these files often when working with results databases in the Results Browser. Our constant strive for excellence has made us bring a lot of exciting improvements in the PSF formats over the years. So, let’s try to find out more about these formats and see how they have evolved over the releases.(read more)

Virtuosity: What's New in Run Plan – Part II

The Run Plan assistant in Virtuoso ADE Assembler has proved to be one of the most popular features. It provides the capability to create multiple variations of the setup within a single session, each of these runs has their own setup details that override the settings in the active setup. Simulations can be run for all the runs defined in the run plan with a single click. If there are no dependencies, the results are generated simultaneously. The different runs in the run plans can vary in terms of tests, analyses, simulation options, variables, corners or they can even run different run modes. Let us see the enhancements that have been made to run plan in IC6.1.7 ISR15 and ICADV12.3 ISR15 releases.(read more)
