Virtuosity: What if I Want to Disable the Filtered Corners?

Virtuosity: Preventing Redundant Simulations
I'm sure we all might have come across this situation - Not being sure if something has changed in the simulation setup or design so you need to run a new simulation in Virtuoso ADE Assembler to check the results. This simulation run may take hours or even days to complete and it's a sheer waste of time when you realize the results are identical to the previous simulation. It gets even worse when you have a regression setup where simulations run to ensure all results are up-to-date. You certainly would not want to spend compute resources and licenses if things are identical.
The tricky question is how to find out that a simulation run is redundant. It is not a trivial task to check all dependencies for a simulation.
To address this issue, starting from IC6.1.7 ISR19 and ICADV12.3 ISR19, a new cdsenv has been provided that allows you to run simulation only if the design, simulation setup or simulation files have changed.

Here is a listing of some of the important updates made to IC6.1.7 ISR and ICADV12.3 ISR over the last few releases:
- Default Application to Open a Saved ADE State(from ISR21)
Specify a default application where you want to open a saved ADE state. Use these while migrating to ADE Explorer or ADE Assembler. - Wildcard Syntax for Saving PCells in Netlist(from ISR21)
Use wildcards to specify PCell operating point parameters on the Save Options form.
(ICADV12.3 Only) Display of Packet Name for WSP Tracks in Virtuoso Width Spacing Patterns (from ISR19)
Use custom display packets for WSP tracks.- New Single Schematic Driven Simulation and Layout Flow in Virtuoso System Design Platform (from ISR19)
Use a master schematic to drive both pre- and post-layout simulations and to create the package layout. - Enhanced eye diagram and measurement support (from ISR17)
Create a centered or custom eye diagram and calculate new eye measurements, such as Max Eye Height and Max Eye Width. - (ICADV12.3 Only) Area-based rule support in interactive routing (from ISR16)
Define different rules for different design areas and allow the edited shapes in an area to be automatically adjusted based on the specified rules. - Enhanced Update Binding support (from ISR16)
Bind layout instances based on a .sip file, if the .net file is not available for some reason.

In this blog, I'll talk about some common yet important terms — PSF and PSF XL — which are nothing but the waveform file formats. If you frequently use ViVA to analyze your simulation results, PSF files are something that wouldn't go amiss! You will have to deal with these files often when working with results databases in the Results Browser.

Virtuosity: What's New in Run Plan – Part II
The Run Plan assistant in Virtuoso ADE Assembler has proved to be one of the most popular features. It provides the capability to create multiple variations of the setup within a single session, each of these runs has their own setup details that override the settings in the active setup. Simulations can be run for all the runs defined in the run plan with a single click. If there are no dependencies, the results are generated simultaneously.
The different runs in the run plans can vary in terms of tests, analyses, simulation options, variables, corners or they can even run different run modes. Let us see the enhancements that have been made to run plan in IC6.1.7 ISR15 and ICADV12.3 ISR15 releases.(read more)![]()

Virtuosity: Opening Old ADE States and Views with ADE Explorer and ADE Assembler
Have you found it a pain that when opening a Virtuoso ADE L state or a Virtuoso ADE XL view that the default application is still the old ADE L or XL? If you've moved on to Virtuoso ADE Assembler or Virtuoso ADE Explorer world then you need to change the application in the Open File dialog to ADE Explorer or ADE Assembler.
To set the application by default we have added a couple of environment variables that you can set in your .cdsinit or .cdsenv files.(read more)![]()
